Today, they are still ideal for growing plants in the greenhouse, but there has been growing interest in using them as an alternative container. This is a 100% environmentally friendly product that could substitute artificial Rockwool. This product is commonly used in Greenhouses to grow vegetables and flowers. A planter slabs may contain 100% Peat, 100% Coco chips or a mix of both. Coco coir planter slabs provide excellent aeration and irrigation facilities for the growth of Plants. Featuring a special blend of coco chips and coir pith, these Coco Coir planter slabs provide excellent air to water ratio for hydroponics. The Plant holes, drip holes, and drainage holes can be predetermined. In the Coco coir planter slabs, the plants can be directly planted and grown. Plant holes on the upper surface of the planter slabs to accommodate the crops to be planted. Drainage holes may be provided for excessive irrigation.
Advantages of Planter Slabs
- Generally used for larger vegetables such as tomatoes and peppers, growing-bags can also be used for a quick-maturing salad crop or for a ready supply of cut-and-come-again herbs and salad leaves.
- On the other hand, planter slabs made of recycled plastic or fabric materials can last for 5 years or more with proper care. They can be cleaned and reused each year for planting annuals, or they can hold longer-lived perennials (or even young trees) until you transplant them to a more permanent location.
- Because planter slabs are so well aerated, they dry out quickly once the plants they contain have grown large enough to fill them. So you’ll probably need to water the bags at least once per day during the heat of summer. You often can determine whether an extra watering is necessary by lifting one corner of the container.
- If you are shopping at a place like Amazon, fabric pots are cheaper than plastic and the difference is even more noticeable as the size goes up. Plastic pots last longer making fabric pots more expensive long term.
